33 Weeks - Irene comes to visit

33 weeks pregnant

This is getting posted a bit late, but there's been lots of craziness going on around here.  For starters, we had our first major hurricaine storm of the season hit Cape Cod.  Although Irene reduced herself from a Cat 1 Hurricaine to a Tropical Storm by the time she made it to us, her winds did enough damage to last us for a while.  Luckily, we only lost our power for the good majority of one day and escaped without property damage.  Others weren't so lucky, unfortunately.  Folks out here are still without power...no bueno!

This boat obviously lost it's mooring

The waves were taking over the sandy beach.
David's Aunt Betsy came out for a visit and experienced all kinds of weather while here.  They took a trip to Nantucket last Friday on a hot and humid day, had a cloudy and rainy Saturday, was able to witness the storm for her birthday on Sunday, then had perfect summer weather Monday and Tuesday. It was so great to have her here.  She bought us some adorable baby gifts, made us a baby quilt, knitted a cute little beanie and taught me how to do a little knitting myself.  Hopefully I'll be able to finish this project we started!  Ellie is going to love everything from Grandma Betsy...Thank You!!!

So as of today (since this is being posted closer to 34 weeks) I have 44 days left!  I am so ready to meet this little girl.  We seriously cannot wait!  This is what's going on with Ellie this week:

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. She's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and her skeleton is hardening. The bones in her skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for her to fit through the birth canal. (babycenter.com)

We've had a great month of visitors and enjoying the last real month of summer, but we are also looking forward to spending some "us" time before the baby comes.  It's surreal to think that we only have 6 more weeks of it being just the two of us before we become a family of three. Niko on the other hand is already claiming Ellie's room as his.  He has never before been interested in that room.  But now that we are spending more time in there and he's picking up on some changes around the house and with me, I think he's wanting to make sure he's a part of it all too.  Jen-  I'm thinking I need to pick up that book you suggested to me!  =)

*And Congrats to our friends Danny and Jade Chase on the birth of their beautiful baby girl:  Colbie Chase!  We  love you guys!!!!!!

32 Weeks- Aunt Kanya visits Cape Cod

32 weeks down....8 more to go!  Holy Moly.  It's been another fun week with lots of changes going on in the Edelson household.  According to babycenter.com Baby Girl Ellie:  weighs nearly 4 pounds and is about 16.7 inches long. Over the next seven weeks, your blossoming babe may gain half his or her birth weight.

Well, I can tell you that she is definitely filling out her cozy space.  My belly is starting to feel tight and has bellowed out so much in the last few weeks.  I have felt some Braxton Hicks contractions and still get a kick out of watching her dance around under my belly.  More and more random strangers have asked about the pregnancy and when I'm due.  I forget sometimes that, yes, I do have a belly sticking out, which is why they are asking.  But it's fun for now, since I won't be getting that kind of attention for too much longer.  =)

Josh and Kanya

Our good friends Kanya and Josh came for a visit from Arizona.  Kanya and I used to be neighbors in Seattle and quickly became great friends.  We've kept in touch over the years, through all of our moves, and have made a couple of fun trips to Vegas together. With her she brought lots of goodies for Ellie and I.   Little girl stuff really is so darn cute!  Thank you Aunt Kanya for everything....you really spoiled us.

Trying out the Baby Bjorn that my dad bought Dave!  I know it's silly...but we can't help using Niko as our guinea pig!

While they were here on the Cape we were able to be tourists on Martha's Vineyard, Boston, and around our little village.  And the girl loves to shop so of course we hit up the Wrentham Premium Outlets.

Now we are gearing up for week 33 and more family coming in for a visit to round out the month.  Hopefully we will be able to fit in the post-delivery baby care classes that Dave wanted to sign up for before our upcoming trip to San Francisco.  Crazy, I know.  One last trip to SFO for a work conference.  I wasn't so sure if I'd be comfortable enough to fly but we decided last minute to go for it since I've been feeling so great and haven't had any major aches or pains.  The OB cleared me and said she felt it was safe and would leave the choice up to me.  Woo hoo... Ghirardelli here I come!!!!

31 Weeks!

Daddy Dave's biggest fan and I cheered him on at the 39th Annual Falmouth Road Race.   It was a chaotic event held over a 7 mile course between Woods Hole and Falmouth, MA.  It drew 11,000 runners and what felt like twice as many spectators.  We were lucky enough to receive three VIP tickets from race founder Tommy Leonard.  So our buddies George, Dave Palmer, and I posted up under the tent with prime finish line seating and a great full breakfast (which, I'm not gonna lie, loved!)

The first place winner was a Kenyan was ran the hilly course in just over 31 minutes, barely missing the course record.  Seriously?!  31 minutes!!!!  It was unbelievable watching the Elite finishers come across in the finish line in no time at all.

In addition to the race, we had our full day Labor and Delivery class at Falmouth Hospital.  It was a long day but Dave surprised me by asking if there were more classes he could take.  What a trooper!!!  He really learned a lot and hopefully will make him feel ready and comfortable to tackle this new career called Daddyhood.  The class definitely gave us full disclosure on the good, the bad, and the ugly!

After the class we came home and got ready for our maternity photo session.  A few months back I signed up for a contest to win a free session.  And I won it!  The photographer is based outside of Boston but was nice enough to come down to the Cape so we could take pictures at our lighthouse and beaches.  The weather was perfect, although quite windy in the beginning.  I'm sure I look like a wild woman with my hair all over the road in a lot of the pictures.  Oh well, it was fun anyway.

Now it's time to relax and put these swollen legs up!  It's been a busy weekend, but a great one.  Thank goodness for another Monday off  :)

30 Weeks!

Seriously, where is the time going?  I completely missed week 30!  The Edelson household has been quite busy lately with friends and family and yet another open house.  We started off the week by celebrating with our coastie family the Coast Guard's 221st birthday.  Every year it's celebrated with a family day event at a local lake with food, drinks, live band, and all sorts of games and activities for all the kids.  This year was even more fun because we randomly ran into and old Alaska buddy, Levi Berg, that Dave lived with for a year up in Ketchikan.  He and his wife and 7 month old daughter are now stationed here on the Cape too!  It was so wild seeing him there since it had been 8 years since those two were together on the Naushon!

In addition to that, I met two new mommy friends that are also due in October.  It will be nice getting to know them and sharing our stories together once the babies are here.

The next day we went up to Boston and picked up my Dad!!!  He flew in to hang out with us for 5 days.  It was so great having him around.  The first day we just bummed around watching movies and doing what we do best out here...Eat Lobster!  It was such a rainy day that there wasn't much else to do.

The boys in the kitchen

Over the next few days we went to Plymouth and checked out the "Rock" and Plimouth Plantation.

My dad's trip was coming to an end but luckily the weather improved and we were able to spend an amazing day on Martha's Vineyard.  It was so nice being out on the water and in the sun after multiple days of rain and clouds.  I love it when we can get together with my dad.  He and Dave get completely silly and really have a good time together...it's so cute to watch.  I know that sounds cheesy but it just makes me thankful that they can have a good, honest relationship with each other.

Now we are onto week 31 already!  I will have more pictures and updates to post after the weekend.  Have a good one!
